How to Install Windows 10 on a MacBook Pro 13" Unibody Mid 2012 (A1278)

Published/Updated: Mar 22 2026

If you are reading this, you have probably realized that Windows 10 did not install correctly on your Macbook Pro 2012. Fortunate for you, the process is very easy. It’s been a while since I did it so I don’t have a step-by-step tutorial, but the summary should be enough for you!

You need to insert 1) an optical disk (like the CD/DVD drive, you know?) that has Windows 10 burned to it, 2) a USB with the boot camp drivers, and 3) a USB with the Windows 10 installation.

I don’t know why this works. Probably something to do with EFI/UEFI (I’m not much of a computer person!) Note that you should still be using the bootcamp application to install windows 10, the special sauce is just having the burned optical disk inside there. Everything should be inserted/connected before the computer reboots/tries to enter the windows 10 disk.

As a bonus, if you plan to install open core legacy patcher (OCLP), you should install that first before installing windows 10. You will no longer be able to boot Windows 10 after installing OCLP. If you have removed your drive reader thing for an extra SSD, you may be screwed! Also, I’ve never installed linux on this Macbook before, so I don’t know how it will be impacted.

Good Luck!!!!
